I’m 25 weeks pregnant and I had hoped to be a slightly less moany mum-to-be this week, but I’m afraid I’m still in rather a lot of pain. My back problem from last week has continued, but I am getting some treatment and it has been slightly better over the weekend.
You can probably see from this week’s photo that I’m pretty exhausted from the back pain now. But I went to the doctor last week, who recommended trying an osteopath. Strangely enough I found a lady who treats pregnant women who practices from home in literally the next street along from us – meant to be, I think!
Now I don’t know the exact terminology for what is wrong, but it seems that the bones right at the bottom of my spine have been compressed due to years of horse riding and care, and that has caused a bit of a weakness. I seem to have injured a disc down there at the bottom. I’m not sure how, but perhaps lifting Lottie or bending awkwardly or something. But the good news is, it’s not irreparable damage and with some rest, lots of exercises, ice and treatment, we should be able to get it mended again. Thank goodness! I’m back to see the lovely osteopath on Friday and in the meantime, have lots to do at home to get it better and some lovely friends are looking after Ben for me for a few weeks to allow me to heal.
Other than that, though, baby Sunny seems absolutely fine, and is still wriggling around like mad and I’m pretty sure it’s growing at the rate of knots too, as bump seems to be getting bigger by the day. Lottie has suddenly noticed the bump and keeps patting it and laughing and cuddling it – cutest thing ever! I’m sure she has no idea there’s a baby in there, but she definitely knows it’s different.
I was chatting to my mum the other day about how nice it is that my friend who lives three doors up has a little girl, nearly exactly a year younger than Lottie, because I’ve been passing on bits to her like snowsuits, which often don’t get much use before babies grow out of them. We were discussing how we’d have everything we needed if we have another girl. But then I realised that actually, even if we have another girl, it will be born at a totally different time of the year, so the seasonal clothes (coats, summer dresses, etc) will be the wrong size when the weather is right. Perfect excuse for shopping!
So I’ve been out and bought the cutest snuggly snowsuit in first size ready for bringing baby home from the hospital! We’ve also been looking at sorting out the bedrooms as I’d like to get Lottie settled into her new room before baby arrives. I know it won’t be in there for a while as it will sleep in with us, but we did use Lottie’s nursery a lot for changing, storing clothes etc etc and I don’t want her to feel turfed out.
Unfortunately, Lottie’s not going to be quite ready for a bed by the time she moves, so her cot will move with her, and then we will need something for once the baby has grown out of the moses basket to tide us over. I’ve been looking at cribs, and the sunzpod so far, but if you have any recommendations, do let me know.
That’s about it for this week – preparations underway and operation heal mama well and truly in progress!
I’ve been wondering when to start shopping myself. We have been lucky (or not) that the first 2 are both January and March is not too different in terms of seasons but I am adamant that I am not moving G from his cot until he physically climbs out of it haha. Im not having him running about 😉 thankfully, if he is still in it, there is a cot at my mum’s house so I will just need a new mattress. Rubbish about your back you poor thing. I hope you recover soon. Thank you so much for linking up to #MaternityMondays but you know I read your blog anyway. Sometimes I feel like your blog stalker haha x
That is quite lucky – we are totally wrong seasons here! Haha, Lottie is staying in that cot as long as possible too. I’ve been meaning to link up for ages, but keep forgetting. I stalk your blog too my lovely! 😉 xx
I had terrible back pain in pregancy. It’s awful. Hope it eases up soon for you.
Awful isn’t it?! Thanks lovely xx
oh I do hope you can get your back sorted out and it doesn’t get too painful for you. When our son had outgrown the moses basket we just used our travel cot for a couple of months until he moved into the cot in his room as it was too big for ours. #maternitymondays
Thanks so much! That’s a brilliant idea re the travel cot, thanks lovely xx
