Word of the week 27/03/15

Following on from the last few week’s words, with us selling a flat, having an offer accepted on a house, this week’s word is…

saving

We are on an economy drive to save for the moving fees, new bits for our new home, and of course, our new baby. So we’ve been spending a lot more time at home, cooking from scratch, planning meals for the week, stopping all shopping during the week, etc etc.

And surprisingly I’ve really enjoyed it. I’ve swapped Tesco for Aldi, I’ve been trying to make some cost-saving meals from scratch, which have been delicious, if I do say so myself. And best of all Mr M and I have been spending some quality time together. We had gone into the routine of going out on the weekend, eating out, going shopping on the weekend and I think we had stopped properly enjoying each other’s company, if that makes sense.

Anyway, we’re doing well so far and it’s actually a really nice feeling to have control over my money. I’ve always been a bit bad for just spending on my debit card and not really keeping track of how much I’ve spent, and then being terrified to look at my balance in case I’ve spent too much.

And much as it sounds boring, actually knowing what you’ve spent, what you have left and more satisfyingly, what I have saved, feels like a real achievement to me. And when we start to make our new house home for our little family, I think that feeling will only grow.

I think I’m finally growing up!

Sounds like a very positive week then all round. I am thinking of trying the switch from Tesco to Aldi, too, so may well give it a go 🙂

Oh you should Jocelyn. I love it, it’s so much cheaper, but so far really good value. We don’t tend to buy ready meals etc, but the fresh produce is great quality xx

Oh this sounds like a lovely week, we, too, are in the process of saving and trying to work out a budget, in a way it’s nice because it does let you feel like you are in control. I wish we had an aldi near us we would definitely shop there!

It’s weird isn’t it – I thought I’d hate it, but turns out I’m a bit of a control freak. Have you got a Lidl nearby? They’re meant to be good too x

Good luck with your new house! We shop between Aldi and Morrisons and am always amazed how expensive it is when we do the occasional shop at another supermarket. x

Thanks Louisa. Isn’t it amazing how much cheaper it is. I would find it difficult to go back to the main ones! Xx
