Ten things I am enjoying postpartum

I didn’t mind being pregnant. I was lucky not to get sickness or any particularly severe symptoms and remained quite comfy until the end when I got huge and too hot!

And there were lots of things I really enjoyed about pregnancy

Despite that, there are a fair amount of restrictions during pregnancy and there is part of me that is rather glad to get back to myself and enjoy some of those things I haven’t been able to for nine months, such as:

1. Prosecco

And wine. Gin. Fruit cider. Actually who am I kidding? Just alcohol.

2. Soft cheese, cured meats and shellfish.

Lots of my favourite foods were banned during pregnancy… Oh hello Mr Brie and Mrs Pate.

3. As much coffee as you like

I know it’s bad for me, but I love a cuppa and have always drunk a fair bit of tea and coffee. While you’re pregnant, it’s max two cups, followed by decaf or camomile tea. It’s just evil when you are so tired due to your condition.

Now though, it’s back to unlimited cups and thank goodness for that with the sleep deprivation!

4. Eating rich and spicy food

This is the last one related to food and drink, promise.

But it is so nice to be able to eat what I like and not be plagued by the dreaded heartburn for hours afterwards. Mind you, the heartburn was no surprise once Lottie arrived. Have you seen the child’s hair?

5. Tummy time

For me, not Lottie.

It’s amazing to be comfy in bed again. I’m a big fan of lying on my tummy to sleep so pregnant sleeping was fairly restrictive.

6. Bending over

Or more specifically bending over, getting up and sitting or lying down in comfort and without making that ‘ooof’ noise that makes you sound 20 years older than you are.

7. Being ‘allowed’ to do things

Mr M was incredibly sweet while I was pregnant and wouldn’t let me do anything with any risk involved – ladder climbing, lifting, hoovering (I know – hardly high risk!)  and while I appreciated the sentiment, it drove me mad that I couldn’t get on and do what needed to be done. I don’t mind not starting up the hoovering again though…

8. Having my wardrobe back

I had a limited maternity wardrobe, so it’s nice to have a bit of choice back. I’m also pleased to be able to wear shoes other than flip flops now my feet have returned to a normal size.

9. Being back in the saddle

I haven’t been able to ride again yet due to episiotomy and tearing but I have a date with Ben the horse this weekend and I cannot wait.

10. Family time

Best of all, I’m absolutely loving spending time as a family of three. Our new dynamic is awesome and I’m savouring all the special moments and enjoying watching Lottie develop and grow.

What did you love about life postpartum?

Great list! It reminds me of all the things that you forget that you take for granted, but only realise once you pregnant. I missed so many of them and reading them brought a little smile to my face as I remembered 🙂 #TheList
