Dear Lottie Bella: Two months old

Dear Lottie Bella

Your second month in the world has seen you really grow into the little person you are going to be. You are becoming much more aware of what is going on around you, much more definite about what you want and you are dealing with life just beautifully.

I think the biggest development this month is that you are now smiling and occasionally laughing. Your favourite people to flash the cutest smile I have ever seen to are daddy and nanny. We will all do absolutely anything to make you smile and at times you probably wonder what all these crazy grown ups are doing, singing, pulling faces and laughing. But your smile lights up the room and it makes my heart sing when I see it.

Another huge achievement, dare I say it in case I jinx it, is that you have started to sleep through the night. You will go down in your cot in our room around 9pm and you don’t wake up until around 6.30am. The first time you did it, I woke at 5am in a flat panic that something had happened to you, but you were soundly sleeping in your cot. You wake up the happiest, most gorgeous little girl ever and daddy feeds you and chats to you before he goes to work.

Me and daddy are much nicer people to be around now that we are getting some sleep again.

Physically, you seem to grow every day and you are holding your head up for much longer periods now, and you are just loving looking around and finding out all about your world.

Your colic also seems to have passed now and you are still one of the happiest babies I have ever known. You are very content and happy to go to anyone for a cuddle, and you’re very sociable – everyone loves you.

And I have to mention your hair! As it has got longer, it has started to grow vertically on the top of your head. We think it’s gorgeous and it’s definitely becoming your trademark as people always comment on it, but I have a feeling you may look back at photos and berate me for not doing something about it (trust me, we’ve tried to dry it flat, but short of putting gel on, there isn’t much else I can think of, sorry.)

This month you are loving:

People – you just love a chat and a cuddle. You also met your other nan and grandpa this month (they live a long way from us and don’t drive) and your great auntie and uncle from Wales came to visit

Your bouncer chair – you sit happily in your bouncer during the day as it means you can watch everything that is going on around you.

Singing – people singing to you really makes you smile and laugh and you’ll listen for ages.

Wriggling – you are so strong and love nothing more than to lie on the sofa with someone to chat to while you kick your legs and wave your arms.

wriggling baby

You car seat – You absolutely love going in the car and it sends you to sleep every time we go out.

Going out in your pram – Your inquisitiveness is satisfied with a good walk in the pram where you can gaze at the world passing you by.

You’re not so keen on:

Having your hair washed or dried – World War Three.

Having injections (who is?) – You had your jabs last week and I’ve never felt so guilty. You screamed the surgery down and all you wanted was cuddles afterwards.

Having your feed interrupted – If I need to answer the door or move positions, you scream blue murder.

I am loving my time with you and I can no longer imagine our lives without you in them. I love watching you grow and develop, but when I have to put newborn clothes away because they don’t fit, it makes me a bit sad that you are growing so fast.

Now that I have felt the pride that I feel about you and what a beautiful little girl you are growing into, I realise that I have never been truly proud of another person until now. I love to watch you interacting with me, your family and our friends and see glimpses of the gentle, yet definite little person you are becoming and my heart swells with pride to see your character grow each day.

Daddy adores you too and dotes on your every move. He can’t wait to see you when he gets in from work each day and spends all evening just drinking you in.

I have just put your sleepy little body into bed and paused for a moment. I never really want to put you down when you are sleeping, but tonight I breathed your scent for a few extra precious moments. I watched your pure little face reacting to your dreams and I wanted to cry with happiness that you are in my life.

All my love forever

Your mama xxx
