Dear Lottie Bella: Six months old

Dear Lottie Bella,

I said in last month’s update that I was sort of dreading the six month mark. It felt as though so much changes and you would really grow up suddenly.

Well it has, and you have, but it hasn’t been at all negative. I’ve loved seeing you grow and develop and how you just take everything in your stride.

This month, you have moved into your big girl pram. You were finally too long for the carry cot and so you’re sitting up and loving it – it satisfies your incredibly nosy streak as you can see so much more of what is going on.

You’ve also started to eat and are loving that too. We have tried all sorts of fruit and vegetables, yoghurt and porridge and you haven’t yet turned your nose up at anything. You are very independent and are taking to baby led weaning like a dream as you like to hold your own food and feed yourself. That doesn’t work out so well with a spoonful of yoghurt, but what’s a bit of mess? Your favourite things so far are strawberries and toast.

One thing I did think would have happened by now, that hasn’t, is you moving into your own room. Your cot is still in our room and your daddy is not keen to move you out as he loves having you close by at all times.

And I can understand why. Your calm, content attitude has become your mainstay and you are practically always happy, giggling and smiling. You are a real joy to be around and we don’t want to spend a minute without you that we don’t have to.

So far, your sleep is still fantastic and you’re still only getting up for one feed a night and sleeping from 7 til 7 each night. We’re so lucky. And you have finally got to grips with napping in your cot this month and will have three sleeps each day in your cot without any fuss.

This month you are loving:

Food! Everything you have tried so far you have loved and you have taken eating completely in your stride.

Standing up. You are much more steady on your legs now and each time we pick you up, you just beam at us – you are so proud of yourself.

Other babies. You have suddenly noticed other babies and you just stare at new babies. But you definitely recognise your friends Sam and Toby and you hold each other’s hands. Too cute.

Tickling. You cannot stop giggling when daddy tickles you.

Splashing in the bath. You think it’s hilarious when we splash you and if the water goes in your face, it’s even funnier.

Daydreaming – you quite often drift off into what nanny would call a ‘thunk’, a little world of your own for a few minutes.

Watching football – daddy is convinced that you like the football…

I was silly to be apprehensive about you reaching six months. I should have known that you would continue to be the very best thing that happened to me. That you would take any changes well within your stride and that as you grow up, you entertain and fascinate me even more, as I learn to find more and more love in my heart for you.

I can’t wait to see what the seventh month will bring…

I love you to the moon and back
