Dear Lottie Bella: One month old

Dear Lottie Bella

I think every new parent says this sentence at some times, but I genuinely cannot believe you have been in our lives for a month already. The days are going so so quickly and I’m desperate for time to slow down a bit as I am treasuring your newborn days, but at the same time, I’m loving seeing you grow and develop and change each day

You are such a happy little thing and one of the most content babies I know when you are comfortable. You coo away at Daddy and me and stare intently into our eyes as if you’re trying to work out what this world is all about.

Your start in life wasn’t quite what I wanted it to be, and we had to have a little bit of help from the doctors to get you out into the world, but you arrived safe and sound and unharmed, which is possibly the biggest relief of my life.

You and I tried our best to breast feed, but although you did want to, you didn’t open your mouth wide enough to be able to latch (you’re just too ladylike, little one), so in the end, we used the pump to express milk and feed you with a bottle, which you seemed much happier about and we could be sure you got what you needed. I’m sorry that I didn’t manage to feed you myself, but you and I got very stressed about it and I couldn’t watch you getting so upset any more.

Daddy went back to work nearly two weeks ago, so the daytime is spent as the two of us, but we have lots of friends and family coming to visit and you have been spoilt rotten with presents and cards from all of our loved ones. Everyone absolutely loves you. As soon as daddy comes home from work, you hear his voice and desperately look for him. You love him so much, but not nearly as much as he loves you. He couldn’t be happier.

You’ve had quite a bad bout of colic, so we have bought you new bottles and medicine and you seem much much better over the last week, which is a huge relief as Daddy and I hated seeing you so distressed.

So far in your little life, you seem to love:

Cuddles – you’re not fussy who they are with!

image (3)
Your play mat – you are already trying to roll over  on there and you chat away to all the animals that are hanging from it for ages
People in general – you are a very sociable little girl and you’re happy to go to anyone at the moment and will happily chat with them or go to sleep on them.
The bath – you love having a bath and scream blue murder when you have to get out. I think you will be a water baby.

image (5)
The chandaliers in the living room – you could spend hours looking at them in the evening -you’re mesmerised by the glittering from the glass beads.
Singing – you are the noisiest baby I have ever met and you sing away even in your sleep. It’s the sweetest little noise I’ve ever heard.
Sleeping with your arms up – when you do finally give in to sleep, you love to lie with your arms above your little head.

But you’re not so keen on:

Sleep – I think you have FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) as you are hardly sleeping at all in the day, although you do sleep well at night on the whole and only wake two or three times for milk
Having your toes touched – Just like your daddy.
The cold changing mat – you’re very happy being cosy and warm and do not appreciate being stripped off to change your nappy.

Lottie I can’t really put into words how much I love you. You stole my heart the moment I set eyes on you. Each day I think I am full up of love for you, but the next day I seem to love you even more.

Every morning, I wake up excited to see you and when you wake from your naps and open your beautiful blue eyes, my heart sings.

When I look at you, I’m blown away that we managed to create such a perfect little person. You are just beautiful and I worry sometimes that you are too perfect to survive in this world.

I would do anything for you my little mouse and I will protect you from everything I possibly can for as long as I live.

I have been very happy in my life and more so since I met your wonderful daddy, but your arrival has completed me. I was born to be your mama. I feel whole, I feel happy and content and I couldn’t wish for anything more than our little family of three.

This is so beautifully written, and I couldn’t help but smile at every photo as I scrolled down! We had to switch bottles and milk because of colic too. Hope it’s better for you xx

Awr this post is so lovely, made me all emotional!
She is beautiful and you are doing so well despite her not latching on. Expressing is sometimes the best decision, it certainly was for me, when you’re both getting stressed BFing isn’t right.

      Aaw, thanks lovely lady.
You’re so right re breastfeeding. If it is upsetting you both, then sometimes, you have to make that choice I think.

I know she’s a bit bigger now but THOSE CHEEKS! she is just too adorable. I can imagine your frustration at feeding not going how you wanted it to but expressing is the next best thing! I can’t wait to read more next month 🙂

Thanks lovely. I still regret it not working, but she seems to be doing fine, which I guess is what matters in the end.
