Baby essentials

Please note – this is a collaborative post

When having a baby, there are many things you need to remember to buy and it can feel like you’re being constantly bombarded with things you need to buy why to enable your baby to have the best start in life. However, a lot of these things are not essential and can turn out to be a waste of money.

Here are some of the essentials you need for your baby as soon as they are born.

Car seat

Without a car seat, you won’t be able to get home from the hospital after having your bambino. Although we all like things to match, finding a car seat that has the correct safety features and looks stylish is almost impossible. This is an item of substance over style here. You’ve managed to keep your baby completely safe inside your tummy for the last 9 months and now, you need to keep the baby safe when in the car.

Car seats can seem very expensive, however, it is worth every penny so you know your tiny baby is safe. There are enormous options when buying car seats that grow with your baby, but you need to make sure that safety is the number one priority.  The best way to do this is to research, look on all the parent forums and go and speak to people in-store or via chats online to make sure you have the best product.

A Bed

Once your baby is here, they must have a bed so they can be safe and sleep either next to you or where you feel most comfortable. To start with, it is suggested the baby stays in the same room as you as you’re breathing and warmth are likely to make the baby feel safe. You are also there if and when the baby wakes up in the night.

Some people choose to put their baby in a Moses basket or next to me crib when they are newborns and then move to a cotbed, however, it doesn’t matter what you choose as long as your baby has their bed. There are lots of risks involved if your baby doesn’t have their bed and you choose to co-sleep. This does not mean your choice to co-sleep is incorrect, there are scary statistics and stories of what could happen if you do. This is why it is suggested that a baby has a bed.

Clothes

Many people joke about being as naked as the day they were born, however, clothes are extremely important for your baby.  Your baby has been inside a perfectly temperature-controlled environment for the last 9 months and will be unlikely to be able to control their body temperature. This is why choosing weather appropriate clothing for the time your baby is born and throughout each season is extremely important.

Many people choose to dress the baby in clothes that are associated with their sex or gender, however, if you have waited for a surprise you can always buy white or gender-neutral clothes for your baby. As long as the baby is not too hot or too cold in what they’re wearing it doesn’t matter what it looks like.
