Following on from the last few week’s words, with us selling a flat, having an offer accepted on a house, this week’s word is…
We are on an economy drive to save for the moving fees, new bits for our new home, and of course, our new baby. So we’ve been spending a lot more time at home, cooking from scratch, planning meals for the week, stopping all shopping during the week, etc etc.
And surprisingly I’ve really enjoyed it. I’ve swapped Tesco for Aldi, I’ve been trying to make some cost-saving meals from scratch, which have been delicious, if I do say so myself. And best of all Mr M and I have been spending some quality time together. We had gone into the routine of going out on the weekend, eating out, going shopping on the weekend and I think we had stopped properly enjoying each other’s company, if that makes sense.
Anyway, we’re doing well so far and it’s actually a really nice feeling to have control over my money. I’ve always been a bit bad for just spending on my debit card and not really keeping track of how much I’ve spent, and then being terrified to look at my balance in case I’ve spent too much.
And much as it sounds boring, actually knowing what you’ve spent, what you have left and more satisfyingly, what I have saved, feels like a real achievement to me. And when we start to make our new house home for our little family, I think that feeling will only grow.
I think I’m finally growing up!
