A worrying week with happy highlights

When I thought about writing a happy days post around the middle of the week, I scoffed at myself as this week has been anything but happy for me and my family.

But then I realised, that even in the roughest days, you can always find something happy, and in turn find comfort from that. So I changed my mind and decided that despite everything, I’d damn well find some happy.

  • So the week started with Father’s Day and we had such a lovely day. We spent the morning at home, giving Mr M his first ever Daddy’s Day presents and cards. Then we headed to my parents’ for a lovely lunch, and finished off with a walk with Lottie to our local pub. Two happy daddies. Job done.

On Monday, I took my dad for a routine procedure at 7am at our local hospital. From then on, my week went downhill. Without going into too much detail, Dad ended up having major surgery and was in hospital for the rest of the week. He is home recovering now, but we are awaiting results, so it’s an incredibly worrying time for all of us.

On Monday morning, without being too dramatic, I felt like my world was falling apart and this has been one of the most distressing, upsetting weeks I have experienced.

But over the week, I have realised that some positive things have come to light and for now, I want to focus on them.

  • I have the most amazingly supportive and strong family, who pull together when times are tough and look after each other. I’m so so lucky that we’ve been in this together and helped each other.
  • My friends are the best. Seriously people, you rock. I’ve let people down, ignored other people’s problems and generally been shocking and everyone has not only put up with me, but again, supported and loved me, checked up on me and generally been fab.
  • Lottie Bella has been so good. When I got a call from the hospital on Monday morning to go back, she was mid-way through her Weetabix, having already been woken up and taken to hospital to drop Grandad off. And do you know what she did? Had a nap. She didn’t cry or fuss, just got on with it. And that’s how she has been all week while being passed from pillar to post.
  • The NHS are fabulousĀ and have reacted so quickly and professionally and looked after their most precious patient this week in first class style. Thank you so much.
  • I’m stronger than I thought I was. I am an emotional person, I admit that. But you can be emotional but strong at the same time. There have, of course been tears, but I am human. I have, however, been there for every step I possibly could be for my dad. And he never saw me cry.

Get better soon daddy xxx
