38 weeks pregnant: Bumpdate

38 weeks

Feeling: I’m glad to say I’m feeling so much better this week. I think my body was telling me to slow down last week and now that I have, it’s managing much better.

I’m getting lots of lightning pains and the odd bit of cramping, but nothing that doesn’t pass quite quickly. Little R-M seems to be moving so much more, but I guess its getting bigger, so I’m probably just feeling it more now. It’s active on and off all day and then still really picks up around 9-9.30pm, when Mr M has a good old chat with it.

I’m getting out of breath pretty quickly now and can’t do much without a breather every five minutes or so, so nothing is getting done particularly quickly any more.

We’re still waiting for contracts to be exchanged on our house, with things changing on an hourly basis as to when this is likely to happen, so this week, I have cleared out our spare room and made a makeshift nursery in there, so that if baby comes before the house, we have everything organised. I’m feeling so much calmer now that all its clothes are washed and ironed, the room is clean and tidy and we can get to the moses basket. I know it will be in with us anyway, but it’s nice to have everything organised and ready.

Appointments: We had our second parentcraft class this week, where we went through the options for pain relief, pros and cons etc, and things like bathing, feeding, dressing the baby etc etc when it actually arrives. So we now feel prepared and ready for when Little R-M decides to makes its entrance.

I also had my 38 week midwife appointment and all is well. My blood pressure, urine etc are normal, baby’s heartbeat is fine and the fundal measurement was at 37cm, which is completely in line with its growth so far. Little R-M is 3/5 engaged now, so it’s getting ready for the big day.

Looking: The bump has dropped slightly, which I guess is because it is engaged. And the good news is that now I’m not sat behind a desk all day, my big fat feet are slightly less huge.

Craving: Sweet things and sugar, although I’m trying not to give in too much.

Sleeping: Still on an hourly sleep/wake routine, but at least I’m ready for when baby wakes me up!

Baby is as long as: A stalk of rhubarb

I’m glad that you’re feeling better now, the last few weeks were a struggle for me too, I remember the relief that came with maternity leave, I think we push ourselves to stay too long nowadays!

I m trying my hardest not to become impatient or wish this time away; I know I ll only wish it back once Master Peppercorn has arrived and I m sad I don t have a Bump anymore! Everyday is just a slog and so much effort at the moment, and all I want to do is snooze I have been very thankful for the warm weather in the latter part of this week, however, as it has meant I ve been able to wear flip-flops, and haven t had to bend over and force my swollen feet into shoes!
